Glithero is a London design studio founded by British designer Tim Simpson and Dutch designer Sarah van Gameren, who met for the first time while studying at the Royal College of Art. From their studio in London they create product, furniture, and time-based installations that give birth to unique and stunning products. The work is presented in a broad spectrum of media, but follows a consistent conceptual path: to capture and present the beauty in the moment things are made.
Every single piece they conceive is the result of mixing two key ingredients: time and transformation. With their own concoction of creation-performance they aim to bridge creative disciplines and make works that can be understood by all.
The series of Les French furniture pieces, first launched back in 2009 for Gallery Fumi in London, and now extended to new items is an ode to the prototype, derived from a mission to capture the impulsive gesture the duo sees in the first sketch.
The project became an exercise in two parts. All the furniture consist in ad-hoc bamboo frames joined together with functional surfaces (at varying heights) through ropes. At the first step of realization, the piece is made in bamboo and wax before being directly cast in bronze using the lost material casting process giving each piece a unique attire. Through the process of loss material casting, the fragile and unlikely structures are translated to structural and permanent bronze bases.
The top volumes were sketched in cardboard like a family of unique characters fitting the bronze bases. Laid out, the cardboard patterns became the guidelines to a lightweight fabrication in gum-paper strips, underlining the friction in permanence between the top and the bottom part.
The collection now includes: a coffee table, hall table, stepped low shelves, sideboard shelves and a tall shelving stack.

Ogni singolo pezzo concepito è il risultato del mix di due ingredienti chiave: tempo e trasformazione. Attraverso il loro modo di mescolare creazione-performance mirano a mediare tra le discipline creative e realizzare lavori che possano essere compresi da tutti.
La serie di arredi “Les French”, lanciata per la prima volta nel 2009 per la Gallery Fumi di Londra, ed ora ampliata a nuovi pezzi, è un’ode al prototipo, ed è scaturita dalla volontà di catturare il gesto impulsivo che i designer vedono nel momento del loro primo schizzo.
Il progetto si è sviluppato come un esercizio in due fasi. Tutti i pezzi constano in strutture di bamboo costruite ad hoc unite a superfici funzionali (poste a diverse altezze) attraverso delle corde. Nella prima fase della realizzazione, i materiali utilizzati sono il bamboo e la cera. Successivamente il tutto viene gettato direttamente nel bronzo, ricavato dalla fusione di scarti del materiale, passaggio che rende i pezzi unici. Attraverso questo processo, le strutture fragili si trasformano in basi strutturali e permanenti.
La collezione comprende ora: un tavolino basso, tavolo, mensole a gradoni, credenza e scaffale alto.
