Art director, graphic designer and artist from Antwerp Louise Mertens grew up, like she tells us, drawing, painting and building things.
Today, at the age of 26, she found her way with a kind of collage making. The first tests were made with magazine photos and image found on the internet. But of course, when she started selling and exhibiting her work the routine needed to change in terms of copyright issues.

She then started working with photographers and self made photos usually mixing them with manipulated collage/magazine material and covering mostly with dripping colours.

Very selective in the choice of shades, she always looks at the bigger picture, seeking for something neutral, that doesn’t take away the attention. Navy and black are then her favorites, giving her certainty and strenght. Always fascinated by mistery, she encourages people to imagine things on their own wile looking at her works that are on purpose not complete.

Oggi, all’età di 28 anni, ha trovato la sua strada con un particolare tipo di collage. I suoi primi esperimenti, realizzati con ritagli di giornale ed immagini trovate su internet, hanno lasciato spazio ad immagini realizzate ad hoc quando, successivamente, ha iniziato ad esibire e a vendere i suoi lavori, per ovvie questioni di copyright.

Ha iniziato così a collaborare con fotografi ed a realizzare lei stessa degli scatti, che di solito mescola con materiale ricavato da giornali e manipolato digitalmente. Il tutto segnato e ricoperto da sgocciolii di colore.

Molto scrupolosa nella scelta dei colori, è sempre attenta a guardare l’insieme, cercando tonalità neutrali che non possano distogliere l’attenzione. Il navy ed il nero sono di conseguenza i suoi preferiti, di cui apprezza la sicurezza e la forza. Da sempre affascinata dal mistero, desidera che chi guarda i suoi lavori (di proposito incompleti), le persone riescano da sole ad immaginare cose diverse.
