Alejandro Aravena wins Pritzker price for 2016

After being appointed as Director of the Architecture Sector of the 15th International Architecture Biennale, chilean architect Alejandro Aravena, has been named the winner of architecture’s highest prize for 2016, the Pritzker. Aravena’s work “gives economic opportunity to the less privileged, mitigates the effects of natural disasters, reduces energy consumption, and provides welcoming public space,” said Tom Pritzker, chairman and president of the Hyatt Foundation, which sponsors the prize.

“Innovative and inspiring, he shows how architecture at its best can improve people’s lives.”
