Design Week @ Galleria Luisa delle Piane

During Milan Design Week we wandered around the busiest design districts of the city but then we took a break from the chaos to visit a peaceful gallery where new exclusive products were displayed.

1. Transparency by Andrea Branzi

The transparency collection, consists in the Bookcase Onda and the vases Ofelia and Iceberg, all made of perspex.

TRANSPARENCY are clear and bright shapes with no shadows. They make you see the opaque world surrounding them, and as magnifying lenses they dilate it. They’re like jellyfishes, halfway between water and a living organism. Inside them there are spaces where genomes, herb or gold dust float.

TRANSPARENCY sono forme limpide e luminose che non hanno ombra e fanno vedere il mondo opaco che le circonda, e come lenti di ingrandimento lo dilatano. Sono come meduse, intermedie tra l’acqua e un organismo vivente. Contengono al loro interno spazi dove galleggiano genomi, erbe o polvere d’oro.

2. Mirage by Giorgia Zanellato

The Mirage collection consists of 8 lamps, made of white metal and different colors neon.
Her experiments were motivated by her attraction to the variety of colours and diffuse gleam of this light source. This way the neon signs become the reference to create Mirage, an homage to Las Vegas’ memorable hotel.

Fin dall’inizio, ciò che ha affascinato la designer in questa progettazione è la varietà di colori e la brillantezza diffusa che il Neon è in grado di offrire. Le insegne luminose diventano quindi un riferimento per creare Mirage, un omaggio al nome dello storico albergo di Las Vegas.

3. Marwoolus by Marco Guazzini

The new material I called Marwoolus grows from everything that describes my identity, intended as the places I belong to, where I grew up and that reflect my being. Prato, the city of textile industry and Pietrasanta, city of marble.

So, I thought of joining the typical materials of these two places, marble and wool, and merge them to obtain a new one. I used the ones that are usually called production discards, the essence of consumerism. The result is a material that at first glance might look like a typically veined marble, but with an accurate look you see its main feature, an interference pattern made of casually scattered fibers that gives fluency to the pattern and make it dynamic, elegant and gentle.

// Il materiale che ho chiamato MARWOOLUS nasce da tutto ciò che racconta la mia identità, intesa come i luoghi a cui appartengo, dove sono cresciuto e che riflettono il mio essere. Prato città dell’industria tessile e Pietrasanta città del marmo.

Ho pensato quindi di unire quelli che sono i materiali rappresentativi di questi luoghi, il marmo e la lana, e fonderli insieme per ottenere un nuovo materiale. Ho utilizzato quelli che comunemente vengono definiti scarti della produzione, l’essenza del consumismo.
Il risultato è un materiale che nell’aspetto può ricordare il marmo con le sue tipiche venature, ma che ad un più attento sguardo rivela la sua caratteristica principale, cioè quella di avere una marezzatura costituita da filamenti sparsi casualmente che danno fluidità al disegno e lo rendono particolarmente dinamico, elegante e visivamente morbido.

4. Ri-frazioni by Andrea Anastasio

Andrea Anastasio conceived Ri-frazioni, project made up of objects, seats and vases distinguished by heterogeneous materials (mirrors, fabrics, glass and marble)and at the same time, by a clear abstract approach aimed to highlight the relational aspect with the object.
