Did you know Turkey was not only about mosques and old alleys?Well, this is the starting point for Yener Torun, 32 year old architect living in Istanbul, who decide to spent last year taking pictures around his country. The things he searched for were colorful and patterned building facades that he collected over the past few months in his Instagram account (@cimkedi). The aim of this research was to reveal the other side of Turkey, with its modern lines and strong shapes.

“I want to show what people usually do not see. Maybe because of that, even long-term residents cannot believe that most of my pictures have been taken in Istanbul. They offer an escape from the Orientalist perception of the city” explains Torun.

Gli scatti, raccolti tutti nel suo account Instagram (@cimkedi), mostrano una attenta ricerca per le facciate di palazzi colorate e con disegni geometrici. L’obiettivo di questa indagine era mostrare un altro lato della Turchia, caratteristica anche per le sue linee moderne e forme audaci.

“Volevo mostrare quello che la gente di solito non vede. Forse è per questo che anche i più longevi abitanti non riescono a credere che molte delle foto sono state scattate proprio a Istanbul. Queste foto offrono una fuga dalla percezione orientale che si ha della città” ha spiegato Torun.
