Broken Mirror is the result of the collaboration between the New York duo Snarkitecture and radical italian design brand Gufram.
The mirror does not abandon its function, but enriches and transforms it, by becoming an object of art and going beyond the boundaries of direct form-function correspondence. With this project the duo has investigated the boundaries between art and architecture with the same curiosity of the first Italian radical designers from the Sixties and Seventies.
The reflecting surface is surrounded by a frame of soft polyurethane – a direct reference to Gufram’s material par excellence – which is shaped like a break in the wall, a crack that reflects the surrounding space and at the same time creates an alienating optical effect, as if the room opened to the outside world or another environment.
The collection comes in a limited edition of 77 pieces in white, black and grey.
// Broken Mirror è il risultato della collaborazione tra il duo newyorchese Snarkitecture e il brand di radical design italiano Gufram.
Lo specchio non abbandona la sua funzione, ma la arricchisce e la trasforma, diventando un oggetto d’arte e travalicando i confini della corrispondenza diretta forma-funzione. Con questo progetto il duo designer ha voluto indagare i confini tra arte e architettura con la stessa curiosità dei primi radical designer italiani degli anni ’60 e ’70.
La superficie riflettente è circondata da una cornice in morbido poliuretano – diretto richiamo al materiale Gufram per eccellenza – che prende le forme di una breccia nel muro, una crepa che riflette lo spazio che lo circonda, ma allo stesso tempo crea un effetto ottico estraniante come se la stanza si aprisse sul mondo esterno o su un altro ambiente.
La collezione è un’ edizione limitata di 77 pezzi, in bianco, nero e grigio.
