Poured Collection // Troels Flensted

Let us introduce you to a brilliant young designer, who we’ve been following since last January, when he was awarded as one of the Talents à la carte (Rising Talents) by Maison&Objet Paris. He’s Troels Flensted, a danish designer born in 1987 who graduated in 2014 at Central Saint Martins in London.

Interested and inspired by material behaviours, colours and alternative manufacturing processes, he developed an award-winning collection of bowls, tiles and tables called Poured.
The collection is handmade in Copenhagen, and is sold in shops around the world including MoMA in New York and Vitra Design Museum in Weil Am Rhein, Germany.

All objects in the collection are made from mineral powder, water-based acrylic polymer and a small amount of pigment. The material is mixed together, and pigment is added to some of the casting mix. When poured into a mould, the material flows together and creates its own patterns, making every object unique.

“The pattern is like a frozen moment. It captures the time of creation and is a very visual expression of how it’s made. It’s a story of every movement you make when you’re casting.”, says Troels Flensted.

// Oggi vi presentiamo un brillante giovane designer, che seguiamo da tempo, da quando lo scorso Gennaio era tra i Talents à la carte (Rising Talents) a Maison&Objet a Parigi. Parliamo di Troels Flensted, un designer danese laureatosi alla Central Saint Martins di Londra nel 2014.

Interessato e ispirato dal comportamento dei materiali, dai colori e dai processi di produzione alternativi, ha sviluppato una collezione pluri-premiata di ciotole, tavoli e piastrelle chiamata Poured. Gli oggetti sono completamente realizzati a mano da Troels nel suo studio di Copenhagen, e vengono oggi venduti in diversi negozi in tutto il mondo, tra cui il MoMA Design Shop a New York ed il Vitra Design Museum a Weil Am Rhein in Germania.

Tutti gli oggetti della collezione sono realizzati con una polvere minerale, un polimero acrilico a base d’acqua insieme ad una piccola quantità di pigmento colorato. Il materiale viene mescolato in un unico impasto e versato poi in uno stampo dove scorre e crea un pattern ogni volta diverso, rendendo l’oggetto unico e irripetibile.

“Il pattern si crea in un istante, come se il tempo si congelasse. Riesce a catturare il tempo della creazione ed è una vera e propria espressione visiva di come è stato realizzato. E’ il racconto di ogni movimento che fai mentre lavori.”
