After launching two families of lights for Nilufar Gallery, Tree in the Moonlight (2010) and Lit Lines (2011), Michael Anastassiades developed a third collection of lights, presented last month in Camden, London, in a former garage. Just as the two previous collections, all pieces from One Well – Known Sequence are hand crafted in unlacquered satin brass.
The lights displayed various combinations of standard linear incandescent bulbs, either 1 or 0,5 meter long, and tubular brass fittings of the same diameter. Appearing as parallel repetitions of rods, either in metal or illuminated, the designer was kind of obsessive in exploring all the possible iterations that are determined by a mathematical sequence.
The final cut, however, was made on purely aesthetic grounds. The eleven arrangements that went on to become the editioned lights were chosen for their apparent effortlessness. Belying the complexity of their construction and the skills of the UK-based machinist who manufactured them, they look as if they came together by chance. Viewed askance, they could almost be the remnants of the building’s previous occupants.’

Così come le due precedenti collezioni, tutti i pezzi di One Well – Known Sequence sono stati realizzati a mano in ottone satinato non laccato.
Le luci presentavano varie combinazioni di standard lampade lineari incandescenti, lunghe 1m o 50 cm, e giunzioni cilindriche in ottone dello stesso diametro. Nella progettazione il designer è stato quasi ossessivo nell’esplorare tutte le possibili iterazioni che sono state poi determinate da una sequenza matematica.
La selezione finale, in ogni caso, è stata fatta su basi puramente estetiche. Le undici composizioni che sono diventate parte della collezione sono state scelte per la loro apparente semplicità, smentendo così la complessità della loro costruzione e rivelando l’abilità degli operatori inglesi che le hanno realizzate, danno l’idea di essere il risultato di una creazione totalmente casuale. Viste di sbieco, possono sembrare resti dei precedenti abitanti dello spazio.
