Federico Babina was born in 1969 in Bologna, but from 2007 he lives and works in Barcelona as an architect and graphic designer.
Always been curious, he tries to observe the world through the eyes of a child, free from any condition. His work expresses through different techniques; drawing, illustration and architecture are his ways of telling and portraying thoughts, feelings and emotions. He says about himself:
“Sometimes I’m an architect with a passion for illustration and some other times I’m an illustrator with a passion for architecture. An architect has to be a good illustrator. The ability in visual communication is essential. Drawing is the first way of shaping an idea. Ideas can be shaped and change through illustration.”

Federico Babina nasce nel 1969 a Bologna, ma dal 2007 vive e lavora a Barcellona come architetto e graphic designer.
Curioso da sempre, cerca di osservare il mondo con l’innocenza degli occhi di un bambino, senza condizionamenti. Il suo lavoro si esprime attraverso l’utilizzo di diverse tecniche espressive, il disegno, l’illustrazione e l’architettura sono modi di raccontare e fotografare pensieri, sentimenti ed emozioni. Di sé dice:
“Alcune volte sono architetto con la passione per l’illustrazione ed altre sono un illustratore con la passione per l’architettura. Un architetto deve essere un buon illustratore. La capacità di una comunicazione visiva è uno strumento imprescindibile. Il disegno è la prima maniera di dare forma ad un’idea, le idee si scolpiscono si modellano e si trasformano attraverso l’illustrazione.”

His latest serie consists of 27 illustrations inspired by authors’ personalities like Michelangelo Antonioni, Wim Wenders, Federico Fellini and many others. The designed buildings are nothing other than the transposition of the directors’ aesthetics by means of architectural shapes, colors and materials.

Archist investigates the existing connections between art and architecture transforming works by Mondrian, Hirst and Warhol in buildings’ facades.

The main character of this serie is the window, as the architectural element that allows to immediately identify the stylistic features of architecture.

The last illustrations selected are the ones included in Archiset. Federico draws cross sections of interiors resembling scenes from iconic movies.
