Can Italy meet Denmark when you speak restaurants?Apparently the answer is yes, and the result of this bond can be found in Copenhagen, at Italy, the first restaurant of a new chain run by Cofoco and designed by Norm Architects.
Linda Korndal from Norm’s explained:
“We are embracing the Italian mindset. The atmosphere is warm, inviting, full of life and joy but we have translated it into interior motives that Danes can relate to.”
The restaurant is divided into two main spaces, one of which features tables suitable for larger parties as well as upholstered booths while the other dining area running through the glazed facade of the building features small tables with a floor made of small hexagonal black and white tiles. At the end of the space, a step up from the the tiled floor, ingredients and pre-made sauce mixtures are all displayed within a shelving unit or on podiums.
To mark the italian concept the architecture firm exploited four spatial archetypes: La Nicchia (The Niche), Il Passaggio (the passage), Il Cortile (The Courtyard) and La Sala (Dining Room). Each of these areas comes with a harmonious palette of colors and materials, but at the same time uses a different layout to create different moods.
Lots of furniture and lighting comes from Menu since Norm’s co-founders Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen and Kasper Rønn are also creative directors of the brand.

Linda Korndal dello studio di architetti ha spiegato:
“Stiamo adottando la mentalità italiana. L’atmosfera è calda, invitante, piena di vita e gioia ma abbiamo tradotto tutto questo in interni con cui i danesi possano relazionarsi al meglio.”
Il ristorante è diviso in due spazi principali, uno dei quali è caratterizzato da tavoli adatti a grandi ritrovi e a cabine in legno rivestite di pelle, mentre l’altra area corre lungo tutto il lato vetrato dell’edificio e prevede tavoli più piccoli che poggiano su un pavimento di piccole piastrelline esagonali bianche e nere. Alla fine di questo spazio, un gradino più in alto rispetto alla quota di terra, scaffalature e sostegni in legno fanno da supporto ad ingredienti e salse pronte.
Per rimarcare il concetto di italianità lo studio di architetti è ricorso all’utilizzo di quattro archetipi spaziali: La Nicchia (The Niche), Il Passaggio (the passage), Il Cortile (The Courtyard) and La Sala (Dining Room). Ognuna di queste aree prevede una palette di colori e materiali armonica, ma allo stesso tempo utilizza un layout differente utile a ricreare atmosfere diverse.
Infine, la maggior parte degli arredi e delle luci scelti per Italy sono del marchio danese Menu, visto che Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen and Kasper Rønn, co-fondatori dello studio, sono anche art director dell’azienda.
