Ai Weiwei @ Palazzo Te, Mantova

Ai Weiwei has chosen Mantova. The exhibition The Enchanted Garden displays 46 unpublished works by Ai Weiwei plus works and installations by two important and contemporary Chinese artists (two of his loyal assistants) Meng Huang and Li Zhanyang. The conceptual provocative and shocking creations of the Chinese Master will “invade” the rooms of the Renaissance building and will guide us through “enchantment”.

Maybe the most powerful image is an hyper-realistic sculpture of the master realized by Li Zhanyang sit in front of a computer (his only way to keep in touch with the world), inside a dark room enlightened just by blinking lights. An installation where darkness resemble the abuses of power and the flashes symbolize the hope for a better world.

Ne Il Giardino Incantato sono in mostra 46 opere inedite dell’artista cinese insieme ad altre opere e installazioni di due importanti artisti contemporanei cinesi (suoi fedeli assistenti), Meng Huang e di Li Zhanyang. Le stanze dello storico edificio sono “invase” dalle creazioni concettuali del Maestro cinese, come sempre provocatorie e sconvolgenti, che ci accompagnano attraverso l’“incanto”.

Ma forse l’immagine più potente è una scultura iperrealistica del maestro, realizzata da Li Zhanyang, seduta davanti ad un computer (l’unico modo che ha per comunicare con il mondo) al centro di una stanza buia, rischiarata solo da lampi di luce intermittente. Un’ installazione dove il buio simboleggia gli abusi di potere e la luce la speranza in un mondo migliore.
