May Parlar is a photography and video artist living between Turkey, Europe, and the US, graduated in Architecture and Sustainable Design.
The idea of ‘self’, time & memory, the notions of belonging and alienation are recurrent themes in her work. Her practice meditates on the nomadic experience of ‘being’ in constructed realities. Fascinated by the human condition, she likes to create performative visual narratives. In one of her latest projects “Once I fell in time” the objects represented are memories and people who are forgotten. What will happen to all those memories? May Parlar here investigates the meaning of identity, perception, and belonging.
To do this, she has photographed a series of things (rubber boots, balls, sheets or shirts) temporarily staged in different contexts and natural landscapes and arranged imitating curved patterns, sticking to or in contrast with what surrounds them.
The objects represent the people and the memories that will be forgotten, but not lost forever, they will go back, they will be recycled, ready to become someone else’s.

In uno dei suoi ultimi progetti “Once I fell in time” gli oggetti rappresentati sono i ricordi e le persone che vengono dimenticate. Cosa accadrà a questi ricordi? May Parlar qui investiga l’identità, la percezione e l’accoglienza.
Per far questo, ha fotografato una serie di oggetti (stivali di gomma, lenzuola o camicie, palline) che ha lei stessa precedentemente disposto in installazioni in differenti contesti e paesaggi naturali, disponendoli secondo degli schemi curvilinei, seguendo o entrando in contrasto con ciò che li circonda.
Gli oggetti rappresentano le persone e i ricordi che verranno dimenticati, ma non per questo perduti per sempre, torneranno indietro, verranno riciclati, pronti per diventare di qualcun altro.
