Dzoyé is a footwear brand founded by Aosta Valley artist Chicco Margaroli. Every piece is hand painted by Chicco, therefore unique, made with extraordinary attention to detail and colour. The right shoe is always different from the left one, the back different from the front, as is each individual sole. All the shoes are realized to fit the wearer’s fancy, from base colour to creative imagination.
Starting from the ‘soque’, the ancient medieval Aosta Valley shoe, Chicco, with her sensitive vision, made contemporary and original changes to the piece, turning it into a veritable piece of art. She also took it further by creating a more urban shoe that is very different, like flats, boots and slippers. Drawing inspiration from her own passion, recollections and her clients’ dreams, the artist expresses poetry through her creations.
In her atelier in the historic centre of Aosta, Chicco works the shoes with very fine paintbrushes using a hyper real technique, having developed an exclusive blend of tempera and polymers that are waterproof and have extremely high tensile strength. Her methods are the result of a long and careful investigation into construction grade paint, as well as lithography and textiles, a combination that guarantees the quality of the aesthetic appearance and durability of the work over the years. This technical research has enabled the possibility of restoring and revitalising the artistic design if damaged or worn away through use, as the ‘soque’ will always follow its owner and their story.
Dzoyé in ‘patois’ – the ancient and lively French-Provençal dialect much spoken in the Aosta Valley – means “to play”, but it is also the phonetic origin of the words “jewel” and “joy”. The joy of one’s own work, the play of the creation of unique pieces and the result: an exclusive jewel to wear. It is a loving homage to the land where the project was born.

Si tratta di pezzi unici, dai decori raffinati, realizzati con un’attenzione straordinaria al dettaglio e al colore. La scarpa destra sempre diversa dalla sinistra, il fronte dal retro, così come ciascuna suola. Tutte realizzate su misura del desiderio di chi le indossa, dal colore di base alla creativa.
Cuore del progetto è la soque, l’antica scarpa medioevale valdostana, rivista in chiave contemporanea e originale dall’occhio sensibile di Chicco che ne fa un vero e proprio accessorio d’arte, spingendosi anche su modelli di scarpe urbane molto diversi, come ballerine, stivali e slippers. Comune denominatore l’interpretazione creativa e pittorica della poliedrica artista. Le immagini che decorano la calzatura attingono alla memoria, alle passioni e ai sogni di chi le indosserà nel caso di un ordine specifico personalizzato, o dall’iconografia dell’artista che si articola in creative suggestive, ognuna espressione di una narrazione poetica.
Nel suo studio d’arte, nel centro storico di Aosta, Chicco lavora con pennelli sottilissimi a tecnica iperreale, avendo messo a punto una mescola esclusiva di polimeri ultraresistenti alla trazione e impermeabili, risultato di una lunga e attenta esplorazione a cavallo tra materiali edili, litografici e tessili, garanzia di qualità estetica e durata dell’opera negli anni. Una ricerca tecnica tale da permettere di restaurare e rinnovare l’intervento artistico nel caso di usura o danneggiamenti, perché l’opera segua sempre il suo proprietario e la sua storia.
Dzoyé in patois – antico e vivace dialetto francoprovenzale molto praticato in Val d’Aosta – significa “giocare”, ma è anche la radice fonetica di “gioiello” e “gioia”. La gioia per il proprio lavoro, il gioco delle creative a pezzo unico e il risultato: un gioiello unico da indossare. Un omaggio d’amore alla terra da cui il progetto prende vita.
