SubBrixia is a project conceived by NERO which brings some of the most inventive artists from the Italian contemporary art scene to interact with the underground metropolitan network in Brescia, opened in 2013. The metro line consists of 17 stations and covers 14 kilometres. For each of the first 5 stations that have been selected, a different artist will design and produce a site-specific installation.
SubBrixia is realized in “a widespread show,” that leaves the museum, developing in discrete moments in time and space. An underground journey with different stations – symbols of the various chapters of a fantasy story that takes shape in reality. It is an open book that explores geography, identity and heterogeneous languages.
The sequence will open on the 29th of October with Rä di Martino’s intervention at the Marconi metro station. The artist from Turin has proposed the creation of a poster for an unmade film – potentially feasible or totally imaginary and inspired by the 1964 cult film by Burt Lancaster, The Swimmer.
// L’originale progetto, intitolato SubBrixia, ideato e prodotto da Brescia Musei e Brescia Mobilità in collaborazione con il Comune di Brescia, porta alcuni dei protagonisti della scena artistica italiana contemporanea ad interagire con la rete metropolitana della città di Brescia, inaugurata nel 2013. La linea metropolitana composta da 17 stazioni percorre la città per una lunghezza complessiva di circa 14 chilometri. Per ogni stazione delle prime cinque selezionate, un artista diverso produrrà un’installazione pensata ad hoc, in site specific.
Il progetto, curato da NERO che opera nel campo della cultura e delle arti contemporanee in collaborazione con Fondazione Brescia Musei, si realizza come una “mostra diffusa” che esce dal museo per svilupparsi in momenti temporali e spaziali diversi. Un viaggio sotto terra con le diverse stazioni a simboleggiare i vari capitoli di un racconto fantastico che prende corpo nella realtà. Un libro aperto che indaga geografie, identità, linguaggi eterogenei.
Ad aprire la sequenza, il 29 ottobre, sarà Rä di Martino che agirà alla Fermata Marconi. Il progetto che l’artista torinese ha voluto sviluppare consiste nella creazione del manifesto per un film mai fatto, potenzialmente realizzabile o totalmente immaginario, ispirato alla pellicola cult “The Swimmer” del 1964 con Burt Lancaster.
