Carpenters Workshop Gallery is proud to announce that Spanish artist Nacho Carbonell has joined the gallery and will hold ‘Light Mesh’ a solo exhibition of the artist’s work in London. The show will present a selection of new lamp sculptures from his ‘Cocoon’ series created with the gallery and produced using a unique form of plaster, which incorporates sand and textile hardener, set around a steel frame invented by the artist.
The four ‘Tables Cocoon’ are comprised of organic-shaped semi-transparent cocoons varied in form, fitted by a loosely structured sand-coloured mesh, illuminated from the inside so that the light diffuses through producing a natural warm light. Each unique, these four hybrid works, tables and lamps at once, seem to suggest expressive creatures, as fantastic as fascinating.
‘I like to see objects as living organisms, imagining them coming alive and being able to surprise you with their behaviour. I want to create objects with my hands, then I can give them my personality. I turn them into communicative objects that can arouse one’s sensations and imagination. In short, what I want to create are objects with a fictional or fantasy element, that allow you to escape from everyday life.’ – Nacho Carbonell
//La Carpenters Workshop Gallery ha annunciato entusiasta la collaborazione con l’artista designer spagnolo Nacho Carbonell, ospite nella sede londinese con la mostra ‘Light Mesh. L’esposizione presenterà una selezione delle nuove lampade scultura della serie ‘Cocoon’ create con la galleria e prodotte utilizzando una forma unica in gesso, che fonde sabbia e indurente tessile, costruita attorno ad una struttura in acciaio concepita dall’artista.
I quattro ‘Tables Cocoon’ si compongono di bozzoli in diverse forme organiche semitrasparenti, allestite con una rete allentata color sabbia, illuminata dall’interno in modo che la luce si diffonda attraverso di essa, emanandosi calda. Ognuno unico, questi quattro lavori ibridi, tavoli e lampade allo stesso tempo, sembrano alludere a creature espressive, tanto fantastiche quanto affascinanti.
‘Mi piace vedere gli oggetti come organismi viventi, immaginando che si animino e siano capaci di sorprenderti con il loro comportamento. Voglio creare oggetti con le mie mani, così da donargli la mia personalità. Li trasformo in oggetti comunicativi che possono stimolare le sensazioni e l’immaginazione di qualcuno. In breve, quello che voglio creare sono oggetti che hanno un elemento inventato o di fantasia, che permettano di evadere dalla vita di tutti i giorni.” – Nacho Carbonell.
