Spotted at 100% Norway exhibition in Ventura Lambrate, during last edition of Fuorisalone in Milan, Studio Kneip is a craft design and art studio run and founded by Jørgen Platou Willumsen and Stian Korntved Ruud. With their work, the two designers from Oslo are trying to push the boundaries between art, design and craftsmanship, drawing inspiration mostly from nature, geometry and weather. They’re interested in telling stories through their objects keeping an high focus on quality. All the products indeed, are handmade by them, and are either unique pieces or made in small series.
The objects we’re going to show you are the result of a process begun exploring two themes: weather and natural phenomena. Weathered is a series including 5 sculptures, all inspired by manifestations of the force of nature, such as wind, humidity, waves and seismic movements.
The Weathered project can be seen as a direct continuation of the previous one, called Pat. Vol 1. With these objects, the duo have been exploring the processes of oxidation by which color can be added to steel. The sculptures show rough and blurry surfaces, something like the one we can see on planets in photographs or through telescopes.
If you’re in London for the Design Week make sure to stop by the rerun of the 100% Norway exhibition, 24-27 September at Tent London.

Breeze, a series that shows wind direction. Wind is caused by differences in the atmospheric pressure. When it occur differences in atmospheric pressure, air moves from the higher to the lover pressure area, resulting in winds in various speeds.

Hygrometer, an instrument used for measuring moisture in the atmosphere. The construction consists of a large oak cylinder, turned brass components, carbon rod and horsehair. The horsehair is tightly fastened between the carbon fibres. The moisture in the air will make the hair expand or contract.

Swell, a sculpture that visualize movements of swells. Swells is a series of mechanical waves that propagate along the interface between water and air and often referred to as surface gravity waves

Seismoscope, an instrument that indicates seismic movements generated by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and other seismic sources. The sculpture will tell us how big the measurements were by leave marks with the brass pendant on the copper panel.

Pat. vol 1, a series of sculptures that have close relations to some of our biggest inspirations – nature, weather and the geometry.
