Mies Van Der Rohe Award 2015 finalists revelead

420 projects were nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award 2015, the most renowned award for the best building completed in the last two years by a European architect. Nominated because this is a competition which the architects cannot enter personally, their work must be selected by independent experts from all over Europe as well as by the member associations of the Architects’ Council of Europe and other several associations.

This year jury, headed by Italian architect Cino Zucchi and also including Danish architect Lene Tranberg, Bolles+Wilson co-founder Peter L. Wilson and the RIBA’s (Royal Institute of British Architects) Tony Chapman, at the beginning of February shortlisted 40 of the 420 submitted projects. Now has officially reduced them to the final 5. They are:

Antinori Winery, San Casciano Val di Pesa, Florence, IT
Philharmonic Hall Szczecin, Szczecin, PL

To choose the final winner (that will also be awarded with €60.000) the jury has planned to visit in person all the five buildings, and then announce it in a ceremony that will be held on 8 May of course at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona.

La giuria dell’edizione di quest’anno, guidata dall’italiano Cino Zucchi e che include la danese Lene Tranberg, il co-fondatore dello studio Bolles+Wilson e Tony Chapman del RIBA, ha selezionato nei primi giorni di Febbraio 40 dei 420 progetti, riducendoli oggi ufficialmente ai 5 finalisti:

Per arrivare alla scelta finale la giuria visiterà personalmente i cinque edifici e annuncerà il vincitore (che verrà inoltre premiato con €60.000) durante la cerimonia che si terrà il prossimo 8 Maggio al Padiglione di Barcellona di Mies.

“Il padiglione rappresenta in un certo senso l’inizio dell’architettura moderna. E’ un edificio senza tempo.” ha dichiarato Giovanna Carnevali, direttrice della Fondazione Mies van der Rohe.
