Next opening // Fondazione Prada

It’s out! Fondazione Prada new venue will finally open to the public from May 9th 2015.

Combining three totally new buildings with existing ones (the area of Largo Isarco hosted a distillery in the 1910s), studio OMA developed the new site that consists in 19.000 m²of space, of which 11.000 designed just for exhibitions.

The entrance building of the Fondazione will provide an area dedicated to the little ones, developed by the students of the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Versailles. Old Milan will be instead recreated in the bar coinceived by director Wes Anderson.

From May till the end of the summer there will be lots of activities. Artists Robert Gober and Thomas Demand will be in charge of some site-specific artworks. Meanwhile thematic exhibitions will display pieces from the Prada Collection. Also films and documentaries by Roman Polanski will be screened.

For the occasion, the Milan venue will be linked with the other one in Venice (opened in 2011 at Ca’ Corner della Regina) through two exhibitions: ‘Serial Classic’, in Milan, and ‘Portable Classic’, in Venice. Both curated by Salvatore Settis – in collaboration with Anna Anguissola and Davide Gasparotto – they will focus on theme such as seriality and the copy in classical art.

// La notizia è arrivata: la Fondazione Prada aprirà finalmente le sue porte al pubblico a partire dal 9 Maggio 2015.

Lo studio OMA ha sviluppato il progetto che consiste nell’unione di tre nuovi edifici a quelli esistenti della distilleria del 1910 situata nell’area di Largo Isarco, a sud di Milano. Il nuovo sito si estenderà su una superficie di 19.000 m², di cui 11.000 saranno destinati a spazi espositivi.

Nell’edificio subito all’ingresso della Fondazione prevederà un’area dedicata ai piccoli, ideata da alcuni studenti della École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Versailles. La vecchia Milano verrà invece ricreata all’interno di un bar concepito dal regista Wes Anderson.

A partire da Maggio fino alla fine dell’estate verranno organizzate innumerevoli attività. Gli artisti Robert Gober e Thomas Demand realizzeranno alcune opere site-specific, mentre alcuni pezzi della collezione Prada verranno esposti all’interno di mostre tematiche. Verranno inoltre proiettati alcuni documentari con la regia di Roman Polanski.

Per l’occasione, la nuova sede di Milano della Fondazione verrà collegata con quella di Venezia (aperta nel 2011 a Ca’ Corner della Regina) mediante due mostre: ‘Serial Classic’, a Milano, e ‘Portable Classic’, a Venezia. Entrambe curate da Salvatore Settis, in collaborazione con Anna Anguissola e Davide Gasparotto, saranno incentrate sul tema della serialità e della copia nell’arte classica.
